About Charlie
In 1984, while stationed at Fort Benning, I took my daughter to a workshop at the Columbus Museum and picked up a paintbrush for the first time. Working from books and television, I taught myself how to paint. I took 3rd place in a military art show in the fall, 1984, and entered two pieces in the spring, 1985 show and took both 1st and 2nd.
I took a class with Donnie Bitner in Cocoa Beach, studied for several years with Florida "Highwayman" Robert L. Lewis, Jr., and took classes from Marliss Newman at the Brevard Art Center & Museum and Louise Cherwak in BCC Adult Education. I lost a vocal chord to throat cancer in 1991, started painting as therapy and developed and presented my own oil painting instruction program. I took academic classes from Lance Henderson and Nancy Dillen at Brevard Community College in 1995 and 1996. In 1996, I completed the Florida art education certification program in graduate school at the University of Central Florida. |
